Fang territories begin at the southern edge of Cameroun south of Kribi, Djoun, and Mvangan in the South province and continue south across the border , including all of Rio Muni in Equatorial Guinea, and the island of Bioko, Sao Tome and Principe.
Since the 17th century the Fang tribes have moved hundreds of kilometers south west.
The Fang belong to the ethnic groups of the Beti-Pahuin. To distinguish between the individual groups is often very difficult.
The most important and numerous groups of the Fang live in Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea, where they have been the political dominant group since independence. They account for ca 90 % of the population in Equatorial Guinea.
The Fang are famous for their sculptures, which have may have inspired European artists like Picasso and other contemporary artists.
